Welcome Home Southwoods Campers!

Welcome Home Campers

Sunday was a great second session opening day here at Southwoods! We are so happy to have a full house here on camp again and we have wasted no time jumping back into the action!  We celebrated our first evening together as we do every Sunday, with an All-Camp Campfire! We sang along to our favorite wacky camp songs, laughed along to skits performed by the awesome Group Leaders and the MOO Fighters...I mean our Head Counselors, as they ‘mooed’ to a classic camp song, Lean On Me. We cheered on our friends as they received their long awaited 3 year t-shirts, 5 year fleeces, 8 year blankets, and 10 year sweatshirts. We wrapped up a perfect opening day at Southwoods with the first All-Camp Canteen with our friends. It’s great to be back home!

Since opening day, we have marveled at the energy level and how fast everyone has jumped into all of the fun filled activities all around camp. Everyone has been to the Waterfront for some fun in the sun and skill checks in the water. The Activity Fair was held at the Sports Pavilion and showcased all of our highly skilled Activity Specialists. This Activity Fair allowed us to discover all that Southwoods has to offer this summer. There are 60 different activities to chose from, spread all over the 100 acres of camp from pines to the lake, and we cannot wait to explore them all!

This week our Upper Senior Men and Women made the trek to the top of one the Adirondack’s highest peaks, Cascade Mountain and we could not be more proud of them! Yes there is an amazing energy here and you can feel the anticipation in the air all around camp because this Thursday is...DAY OF AWESOME, with a special twist!!  We could not have asked for a better way to get camp started then these first few days, and we look forward to an AMAZING summer with all of you.

Inside Parent's Day

A rundown of Parent's Day,
with a few tips to make it the best day ever!

The front gate opens at 9:45 to begin parking, as you enter you'll receive a copy of our newsletter. No worries about being early...Parent's Day starts at 10:30. If you are going to be much later than that, please let us know so we can make sure your camper knows you are on your way.

Everyone parks on the soccer field where you'll grab your camper luggage from Bob (if it's not being sent home via other means). If you had planned to send luggage home by a different means but you want to take it with you, just let Bob and the boys know and we will get it for you from the bunk-line.

You'll hang out on the Track until 10:20, then make your way to the Hockey area. At 10:30 am, Andrea and Scott will address all visitors then officially open Parent's Day for all! At this time, many families do the "Southwoods Split" - one to the cabins and one to the waterfront to sign up for ski. You have the opportunity to sign-up for a Ski ride - grab a slot and enjoy going out on beautiful Paradox Lake and watch your camper show-off their new skills!

Bunk Locations:

Girls Cabins on Lower Bunkline: Owls Head, Giant, Algonquin, Cascade, Marcy
Boys Cabins on Lower Bunkline: Noonmark, Saddleback, Gothics,  Hurricane, Santanoni
Girls Cabins Around Flagpole: Tabletop, Skylight, Big Slide, Avalanche, Wolfden
Boys Cabins Around Flagpole: Grey Peak, Macomb, Nyestrong

Restrooms - you will find two behind the office and port-a-johns all over camp. Also, Dad feel free to use guy cabins and Mom, female cabins. Changing houses at the beach are labeled by gender as well.

After reuniting with your camper(s), go PLAY! Have fun, let them show you their favorite activities - things they’ve learned or gotten better at! Try the batting cage at Baseball, test your agility in Fencing, take to the Archery range or Tennis court, enjoy camp!!! The amazing Waterfront is a must stop for ski, sail, kayak, canoe, or the new paddle boards!

ALL visitors under 16 MUST take a quick Skill Check at the waterfront before swimming.

Lunch will begin at 12:00 and run until about 1:30pm. A buffet of deliciousness will be available in the dining hall and seating will be under the tent in the grove!

IMPORTANT LOCATIONS!
- Andrea and Scott will generally be around the office/grove/dining hall area.
- Wall of Pics: check out the fantastic pics from the summer and take any that you want!
- Tribal plaques and Camp Play videos will be found in the Southwoods Playhouse

REMINDERS!
- Parents of Upper Seniors should stop in the office to drop off registration agreements or deposits for the Super Senior program. This program is already full for the July 2015 Super Senior trip!
- Any controlled medications need to be picked up from the Safe Haven before you depart!
- If for some reason your child brought a cell phone or internet device, the parent will have to claim that in the office.
- Stop by the Arts and Crafts building to collect projects to take home.
- Don't forget to take home your wet swim clothes.

We'll see you tomorrow!!

Tribal Recap

 Tribal Recap!

Last Sunday ended with the Navajo Tribe flag waving atop the flagpole. It was a close battle all day that started with a spirited Tribal Tug down out the waterfront. After lunch the intensity spread throughout camp to all of the group and individual games. Navajo came out on top at Tug, Iroquois captured the lion share of the points at Group Games, and Mohawk, who cheered their hearts out all day, won the Spirit Points for the day. We are so proud of how all of our Chieftains lead and how our campers competed!

We are so excited for even more Tribal Events happening on camp this evening. Tonight we have our Silent Dinner & Lower Camp will be participating in Candy Hunt! We cannot wait to watch all of our Lower Campers as they frantically run across the Soccer Field searching for piles of candy and then making their designated animal noises. It is sure to be an entertaining evening.

On Sunday, we will dress in our Tribal colors once again in preparation for Tribal Track! We have been anticipating this all week and cannot wait to compete in all of the events that we signed up for last Sunday at our Tribal Team Meetings. We will finish out the day competing in more Group Games and attending Tribal Team Meetings once again where we will be working on our strategy and practicing our songs.

On Wednesday next week, our Upper Senior Chieftains will be having Egg Drop and Rope Burn practices to prepare themselves for their big day! Rope Burn for the Upper Senior Boys is on Friday evening and Egg Drop will be held the following day, on Saturday. We are so excited to see all of their hard work and preparation come together in these events!
